Interview with DSC Member Fujitsu Client Computing Limited

Please introduce your company and yourself briefly

I am the general manager of FCCL, responsible for developing platforms and new technologies for personal computers.

Fujitsu Client Computing was founded on the philosophy that it would lead the way as a computing company that partners with people, persistently providing global offerings with a relentless pursuit of high quality and be an indispensable partner for customers, continually seeking to envision the diverse ways companies and individuals will use its PCs and related products.

What is digital ink’s impact on your business and products?

FCCL has been instrumental in offering products that offer handwriting input, more commonly known as “Tablet PC.” The evolution of digital ink technology has enabled us to expand the number of digital in-enabled devices and applications. FCCL is confident that the growth of digital ink technology and related digital stationery services, will contribute to the expansion of our business in the future.

Why is digital ink important to your organization?

FCCL’s goal is to advance the education market by developing tablets that enhance and encourage active learning through handwriting input and other digital ink-enabled services. Understanding how to take advantage of a universal digital ink platform to develop new active learning uses cases and solutions are crucial FCCL priorities

What first brought you to the DSC, and why did you decide to become a member?

The digital ink technologies are advancing through many industries, like education, medicine, and finance. As a result, a universal digital ink platform that works across this ecosystem is becoming increasingly important. Working alongside DSC members affords us the opportunity to have access to extended market reach and input within the DSC Work Groups on digital stationary use cases, digital ink advancements and more.

What other types of companies would benefit from joining the DSC?

Stationary manufacturers who intend to enter the digital stationary market and existing start-up companies that want to provide applications using digital ink could benefit from DSC membership.

What are your expectations for the next couple years, how will the further developments in digital ink and stationary change your business?

We expect collaboration among digital device suppliers like FCCL, stationary manufacturers, and service providers to create new business opportunities beyond each business segment. Also, we hope it will expand the business to more markets that can take advantage of digital ink-enabled offerings.

What DSC efforts are you most excited about?

As DSC membership is increasing, we a are now in the process of discussing future opportunities involving digital ink technology with stationary manufacturers and other innovators that we didn’t have contact with before. We at FCCL feel it is exciting to have those discussions among different industries— as the biggest advantage we can have is a cross-industry discussion. We expect that many of companies that participate in the DSC and share the digital stationery vision can only lead the growth of the ecosystem.

How will consumers benefit from universal digital ink? Businesses? Markets?

Many of the digital ink innovations have been developed individually for available products and services.  A universal digital ink platform allows us to provide our own unique enhancements while ensuring that consumers can use digital stationery solutions and services regardless of device, operating system, software, hardware or geography.
